Marcos sings and plays tan-tan and percussion in Barioca. Originally from Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, Marcos' interest in music was inevitable, given the rich musical culture of his native city. Born to an American mother, he was naturally drawn to the artists he saw on MTV and at 15, began teaching himself how to play guitar. However, it wasn't until he moved to the United States in 2002 that he became eager to share the musical traditions of his country with Americans. First stop, Austin, Texas where he played percussion and guitar with the Austin Samba School. Looking to experience life in the big city, Marcos relocated to Chicago in late 2005 where he found a burgeoning Brazilian music scene.
