Bill plays guitar, seven string guitar, and bass in Barioca. Cuban-American Bill Martinez is a native of Chicago, where he spent his teenage years like most American kids interested in music— splitting his time between the high school jazz and marching bands and his own garage band. Interested in several genres of international music, Bill has participated in a variety of musical projects ranging from Bulgarian wedding music to rumba flamenca. An accomplished flamenco guitarist, Bill studied guitar at Los Zuritas Flamenco Academy in Seville, Spain. He is currently also a member of Pocket Change, a funk band and the Monday Night Bloomers, a band specializing in straight ahead jazz. Bill credits an interest in Brazilian culture and the Portuguese language with his decision to delve into the world of samba.
